Woodborough Hill sunflower

A 70 m sunflower head on Woodborough Hill: 14 rings of 44 curved triangles laid checkerboard-fashion, each row shifted one ray, so the standing and flattened cells weave two counter-rotating spiral families around a flattened centre disc, all inside a plain flattened rim.

Construction

44 rays at 8.18° and 15 concentric circles (disc edge 7.09 m to lattice outer 32.07 m, uniform 1.78 m spacing) cut the field into 14 rows of 44 curved triangles: straight chords join ring k at ray j to ring k+1 at ray j±1. Cells are laid checkerboard-fashion — per row, 22 outward-pointing standing triangles and 22 inward-pointing flattened ones, base centres advancing one ray per row so the diagonals read as two counter-rotating spiral families. A plain flattened rim band (32.07-35 m) closes the design; flattened centre disc.
